Deep optical and near infrared imaging photometry of the Serpens cloud core

چکیده
We present results from a deep optical (VRI) and near infrared (JHK) survey of the central part of the Serpens molecular cloud. A total of 138 sources were detected in the 19 arcmin2 surveyed area down to a limiting magnitude of 16.3 in K. We find that the form of the observed K Luminosity Function (KLF) of stars belonging to the Serpens Molecular cloud is consistent with that predicted from a Miller & Scalo (1979) Interstellar Mass Function (IMF). We have investigated the KLF evolution with the age of a cluster by modeling KLFs of hypothetical clusters. Our results suggest that two phases of star formation could have taken place in the Serpens core.

An Optical Spectroscopic Survey of the Serpens Main Cluster: Evidence for Two Populations?
We have completed an optical spectroscopic survey of a sample of candidate young stars in the Serpens Main starforming region selected from deep B, V, and R band images. While infrared, X-ray, and optical surveys of the cloud have identified many young stellar objects (YSOs), these surveys have been biased toward particular stages of premain sequence evolution. We have obtained over 700 moderat...

We present our catalog of U , B, V , and I stellar photometry of the central 18 sq.◦ area of the Small Magellanic Cloud. We combine our data with the 2MASS and DENIS catalogs to provide, when available, U through KS data for stars. Internal and external astrometric and photometric tests using existing optical photometry (U , B, and V from Massey’s bright star catalog; B, V , and I from the micr...

We present our catalog of U , B, V , and I stellar photometry of the central 64 deg area of the Large Magellanic Cloud. Internal and external astrometric and photometric tests using existing optical photometry (U , B, and V from Massey’s bright star catalog and I from the near-infrared sky survey DENIS) are used to confirm our observational uncertainty estimates. We fit stellar atmosphere model...

The UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) is the first of a new generation of hemispheric imaging projects to extend the work of the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) by reaching three magnitudes deeper in Y JHK imaging, to K = 18.2 (5σ, Vega) over wide fields. Better complementing existing optical surveys such as the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), the resulting public imaging catalogues pr...
متن کاملEDisCS – the ESO Distant Cluster Survey Sample Definition and Optical Photometry
We present the ESO Distant Cluster Survey (EDisCS) a survey of 20 fields containing distant galaxy clusters with redshifts ranging from 0.4 to almost 1.0. Candidate clusters were chosen from among the brightest objects identified in the Las Campanas Distant Cluster Survey, half with estimated redshift zest ∼ 0.5 and half with zest ∼ 0.8. They were confirmed by identifying red sequences in moder...
